5 Ways To Use Pumpkin Seeds- Superfoods that will help you stop sugar cravings

Let’s Ditch The Sugar Together!  Eating superfoods is what will get you there.

Ok you might be thinking, “Why are you talking about pumpkin seeds if you are trying to help me stop eating sugar?”   Well, a BIG part of reducing sugar cravings is getting optimum nutrition in our bodies.  Who’d a thunk that those seeds we scoop out of pumpkins every halloween were so healthy?  I would either toast them or just throw them away because who can get them out of that dang shell anyway?

I remember when I first learned that pumpkins seeds were the healthiest seed on the planet.  I quickly went to the store to grab some.  To bad just buying healthy food isn’t enough. If that was the case we’d ALL look and feel amazing!  Dang, you mean we actually have to eat the healthy food we buy? HA!  Those pumpkin seeds proceeded to sit on my shelf and taunt me. By the time one made it to my mouth they were rancid, yumm!

So let’s talk about different ways to actually USE pumpkin seeds. Watch this short video or read on:)

I’m not going to go over all nutrients and benefits of pumpkin seeds because you can find out all about that right here.  Trust me they have all those important buzz words: antioxidant, cancer fighting, cholesterol reducing, protein, fiber, omega 3s and on and on. The best way to use them is with a sprinkle here and there. They are high in good fats but no need to go on a seed binge. The best place I’ve found to get them is at Natural Grocers or skip the trip and just get my favorite brand of pumpkin seed right here. Once you get them be sure to store them in the freezer to lock in those nutrients and extend the shelf life.

  1. Add 1 TBS into a green smoothie for some extra nutrition and healthy fat.
  2. Add extra texture and flavor to your salad and sprinkle pumpkin seeds on top.
  3. Pumpkin seeds are delicious in pancakes and muffins; add some to your batter.
  4. Throw some on top of your bowl of oatmeal or cold cereal.
  5. Need a late night snack?  Have a small handful of pumpkins seeds before you go to bed if you are feeling hungry but don’t want to eat too much before sleeping.
  6. Add some to a trail mix.

There are so many great things we can add to our kitchens that have that power nutrition our bodies need.  If you don’t already have pumpkin seeds in your kitchen get some!

Ready to Ditch The Sugar?

Whoever said “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” is a big fat liar pants and had probably never tasted Nutella Cheesecake.  It should be more like “Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels” and even then its questionable. Sorry, I’m supposed to be encouraging here.  I just wanted to say, I know how you feel!!!

I’m not a super skinny muscle mama that has never had any problem with self control.  I’m just like the next gal… a super skinny muscle mama on the inside that I’ve disguised by making sure sugar is my main food group (until now).   I PROMISE I understand your struggle because I’ve been there and sometimes go back there!  The tips and advice I give are from LIVING and learning to overcome my sugar addiction.  If you think it is hopeless to finally change a lifetime of bad habits I’m here to tell you IT ISN’T and I am living proof.  I used to say “Yeah I’m a healthy eater… until about 4pm!”  NOW I can simply say, I don’t crave sugar anymore. I feel REALLY weird saying it and I don’t know how it can be real, but it is true.
