A few months back I woke up to the heart breaking news that my friend’s son had passed away. As a mother I couldn’t help but sorrow for her mother heart and what she must be going through. I cried and prayed and pondered over what I could do to show my love. You desperately want to do something to ease the burden of someone you love when you can’t even imagine the pain they are suffering.
I woke the next morning with the thought to collect memories of her son for her and her family. I would print papers where classmates, friends, church members and family could record their precious memories of this sweet boy. After collecting them all I could bind them into a little book to give the family.
I needed to act quickly. I wanted to print off the papers to start giving to people that morning so I could collect as many stories as possible. I had about 15 minutes before I had to drop the kids off at school so I grabbed my computer and set to work. I wanted the papers to have some color and cheerfulness to them. I wondered out loud to myself, “I wish I knew his favorite color.” I didn’t have time to find out. The color green came to my mind so I just went with it without much thought. I delivered the papers with the bright green border to as many people as I could.
The night of the viewing I walked in to give my condolences with a heavy heart. I blankly looked around the room. I was lost in my own thoughts and anguish knowing it was a drop compared to what this faithful family was feeling. As we walked in line and got closer to the casket my eyes set on some things that were placed on a table next to this dear son of God. They told a little bit about him. A beautiful green floral arrangement, a green Harry Potter book, a green journal, a green quilt draped gently over the casket. Finally it hit me and tears that I thought were dried out poured over.
Green.
In one swift yet powerful moment I felt a rush of love, knowledge and understanding.
The Lord loved this precious son so much he knew and cared for every detail of his life including his favorite color.
The Lord heard and cared about my fleeting desire to know his favorite color and quickly answered.
The Lord wanted to send His love, comfort, and care to this precious family down to the tiniest detail of the color green.
As I hugged my friend I asked the obvious. “Was your son’s favorite color green?” As she replied yes I told her of how the Lord cared about that detail.
My dearest friends, the Lord knows and cares about the smallest of details in your life including your favorite color. He created it for you to bring you joy. He knows the desires of your heart before you even have the courage to speak them, so speak. He sends messages of His love for you every day because you are His dear child, see the messages.
Perhaps the very words you are reading right now are a message from Heavenly Father to you. He LOVES you with a love you can’t comprehend.
