What you may be missing in your study of the Restoration of Christ’s Gospel.

Members of the Church if Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been asked to study the restoration of the gospel to prepare for a historic and unforgettable General Conference.

Though the story of the first vision of Joseph Smith is powerful I believe there is an important message there that many may be missing.

Most know the important overarching message: the Lord speaks to his children and we need to #HearHim. In another post I gave some insights on what we can learn from the first vision about finding truth.

But what might we be missing?

Joseph had a desire placed in his heart. He listened to it. He acted on it. Because he did the Lord was able to show him his purpose. He saw his role in restoring the fulness of Christ’s gospel on the earth and sharing it with the world.

Could it be that the most important message in this study is not just the collective knowledge of the first vision? What about the individual and specific knowledge the Lord wants to give each of us about our own part in sharing the light of the restoration of Christ’s gospel?

Pres. Nelson has stated, “You and I get to participate in the ongoing Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Have you asked how?

What gifts have you been given?

What are the desires of your heart?

Have you acted on them?

Have you learned for yourself what your purpose, your role is?

There is a reason you’ve been given specific gifts and desires.

The Lord wants you to turn to Him and ask for knowledge, strength, guidance. He wants you to ask. He wants to answer.

“What desirest thou? For if you shall ask what you will, it shall be granted unto you.”

D&C 7:1

Your seeking and action can change the world just as Joseph Smith’s did.

“I urge you, with all the hope of my heart, to pray to understand your spiritual gifts—to cultivate, use, and expand them, even more than you ever have. You will change the world as you do so.”

Pres. Russell M. Nelson

“What is my part?” Perhaps that is one of the important questions to ponder as you design your own plan.

We have been given an invitation. Did we only see the invitation to study the restoration? There was more…

We invite you to be a major part in sharing the message of the ongoing Restoration of the Savior’s gospel. This is a hinge point in the history of the Church, and your part is vital.

Pres. Russell M. Nelson
